Dare2Dream is a non-profit organisation involved in the rehabilitation of abused and neglected horses, who, when healed, are used to heal abused and neglected humans.
The process of rehabilitating these horses can take up to two years before they are physically and emotionally stable to be integrated into programs for healing humans. However, once healed these horses make an invaluable contribution and positive results in humans are often visible during the first contact.

Dare2Dream has been involved with the Twilight Street Children Shelter in Hillbrow and St Georges Home since January 2004, in programs that have been designed to address sexual abuse, substance abuse along with mental, physical and emotional development imbalances resulting from various circumstances. From September 2005 Cotlands will join the program.

" OUR MISSION IS TO CREATE A LOVING AND FUN ENVIRONMENT
WHERE WE CREATE A CULTURE OF GOOD HEALTH,
GROWTH AND SELF-ACCEPTANCE
FOR THE DEVELOPMENT AND UPLIFTMENT
OF ALL BEINGS."

INTRODUCTION
Horses provide pleasure, fun, interest, physical stimulation, challenge, goals and repetition, which are all factors conducive to learning. The risk factor of riding is ‘key’ to learning as a valuable means of increasing attention span and challenging the rider.

The success of therapeutic riding is related to the stimulation of the vestibular system. The inner ear has three semi-circular canals, which are filled with fluid. These canals are sensitive to movement, and are activated by the movement of horse riding. The spinal column, brain stem, cerebellum and cerebral hemispheres are particularly responsible for sensory reception and it influences perception, movement, posture, co-ordination and academic learning. The vestibular core receives information from the muscles, the joint skin, visual and auditory receptors and from other sensory areas in the brain.

Main Objectives
To promote and educate the public at large on the natural healing benefit of horse riding.
To give children the opportunity to experience and explore themselves to their full potential beyond the constraints of conventional norms.
To give hope and support to children and their parents experiencing developmental disorders.
Making available to children, contact with animals and nature and to teach them an understanding for their well-being.

BENEFITS
The action of horseback riding results in therapeutic benefits for the rider, namely:
Development of balance
Spatial perception, hemispheric integration
Speech / language and auditory ability
Vision
Muscle tone
Academic performance,
Active behaviour and self-image

Therefore equi-therapy provides a fun-filled natural healing experience for participants; produces results over a relatively short period of time; and is beneficial for assisting in the healing covering a wide range of disorders.
Although equi-therapy per se is not a new product, the benefits of healing specific conditions are new. For example the range of disorders currently being diagnosed as ADD or ADHD mainly in children aged between 2 and 15 years of age.

“These kids can be very bright, very charming and impossible to live with. They think of things that are fun and creative at the rate of about 10 per second” – Nancy Gibbs in Time magazine

Parents of these children are worn out and frustrated and can be divided into two groups, - those that will continue to explore in an attempt to find a solution, and those that believe they have tried everything and that this is just another gimmick to extort money from them.

Equi-therapy will benefit
 - Children with development disorders.
Being children with an emotional, mental or physical block that prevents them from experiencing all they are.
          - Disabled persons. Being all persons deprived or reduced of the ability to normal activities.
